I'm truly grateful to receive Best Female Act and Social Media Champion at this year's VIMA Asia Music Awards. I've said a million thank you's and I'll say it again. Thank you to everyone that has supported since I first recorded Mississauga (in Mississauga Ontario) to this very moment where I stand as an underground artist honoured with these most esteemed awards.
I don't make music targeting the commercial mainstream. I make music to express, to be creative and to push a positive message. This message does not seek to make people feel less than they are or that they must buy more to have more. This message is to make people feel empowered, brave and capable. This music is made to make people question the filth they are fed everyday and to become independent thinkers to go beyond force feeding. If you don't know, seek. If you love, learn more about what you love. I am thankful to the judging panel at VIMA Awards for celebrating a movement that is not a centred in mainstream trends. Because of these awards I celebrate deeper my love for Hiphop, Reggae, Dancehall and Mashup culture. My goal in this new chapter of my life as an artist is to open new doors for international talents to perform, network and grow in the burgeoning market of Asia. When the community of creatives grow into a healthy network, my art grows.
To win Social Media Champion makes me feel a little better that my obsession with phone apps might be paying off. Thank you for your online votes and comments always. It's wonderful to be able to be anywhere in the world and engage with people that are listening to my music.
To win Best Female Act I want to say to all women:
Here's to strong women.
May we know them.
May we be them.
May we raise them.
Celebrate this milestone moment in time with me by taking a moment out of your day and putting on your favourite female artist. Engage in listening, take in the sound, be a part of her world for the moment of the song.
One Love
- Masia.
I share the Social Media Champion award with my right hand woman, webmaster, mother, sister, friend, swiss army knife of endless skills Bernie. She's the bomb and I would have already misplaced my brain without her. Thank you B, you have seen me through Hades and back and kept me laughing the whole way.
The glass floor of the venue 10 stories up was a little un nerving at first.
I co-hosted the awards alongside the most amazing C Loco. A pioneer and star in Malaysian Hiphop and the gentlemen's gentleman. Thank you for the support as I learned kept up with the crazy pace of the awards.
Look Ma we made it!
