Statement from Masia One:

Sending a great BIG thank you to VIMA 2013 team for organizing these awards that bring together artists from all over South East Asia, support independent music and giving me & crew the opportunity to perform live at the awards ceremony.  It has been truly amazing experience to be a part of this event and I am so grateful for all the new musical friends I have made and the doors of opportunity that open from this recognition. Sending love to all the fans that took the time to vote and gave me encouragement on the road to the awards. Shouts out to the incredible Butch Diva that made my blue Camo suit especially for the performance of Warriors Tongue and the awards...definitely the bashiest outfit of the night! Finally, LOVE to my bro Ming Towers...this one, two and three is for you.  I'll do my best to make you proud and let your legacy live on in the music and good vibes.

Masia One rocking Pushin' On 7 Anniversary in Singapore

Rocking tonight in Singapore with DJ Autograph & Hanna Herbertson in Singapore! Pushin' On Crew have been running parties with the best music and people in the Lion City for 7 years. Come out and share the good vibes and realize Singapore's got soul.

Also tonight, my friend and dance sensei Hanna Herbertson will be teaching a workshop in Singapore!  Don't miss out - true Dancehall workshops don't come through to Sing Sing everyday and she is an incredible teacher!  Come by Natasha Studios, and learn how to bruk out with proper technique LOL.

Last days of 2012 in Jamrock

My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return - Maya Angelou Happy New Year.

I spent the last days of 2012 in Jamaica. 2012 was not an easy year - dreams and disappointments seem to tango with one another to see what makes it to the other side.  With the organization and work involved in independently releasing an album, I had lost sight of that which has brought me on this path in the first place: creating music and art.  

Hype TV Up and Live

I've been thrilled that Hype TV in Jamaica has been so supportive of my music and videos, giving them a heavy rotation particularly Number One.  I had the opportunity to perform on Hype TV Up and Live together with DJ Autograph and dancer / choreographer Hanna Herbertson!  We had a great time and even had an opportunity to meet Gyptian (Hold Yuh singer) who was full of style & jokes.

Hosting with DJ Autograph at Fiction Lounge

Along with Hype TV, I had the opportunity to host BNM Jamaica at Fiction Lounge with DJ AUTOGRAPH on the wheels of steel.  You know I had to rock the bashy wig & BUTCH DIVA Camoflage Onesie for such an occassion.  Great vibes all around!

STING Dancehall Clash at Jam World

 I was so excited to be town for the annual STING clash (much like a Rap Battle but the Dancehall version) with artists like Busy Signal, Sizzla Kalonji, Konshens, Aidonia - basically all of my favorite Dancehall Artists.  The biggest diss of the night went to Spice who brought out a live Donkey with a wig on stage calling out her opponent Macka Diamond.  Do what you do Spice, but leave the Queen of the dancehall Lady Saw out of this.

Chiney Money for 2013

Chillin' with Digital producer and artist on Chiney Money off Bootleg Culture. Making plans to put together a music video for the single in the new year.  Check out Digital Sham - he's one of the brightest up and coming stars out of Jamrock! @DigitalSham

I feel really blessed to have these experiences around my favorite island with management and crew DJ AUTOGRAPH & Hanna Herbertson.  Between bashy wardrobes, great music and fresh food it is truly a special path to experience your dreams and find your way through the dark with friends that share your vision.  On New Year's Eve, Autograph and Hanna got engaged at sunset.  My heart is overjoyed and I wish both of them nothing but happiness, fullfillment and continued kinship in love & business.

 

 

As for me, I took some time for myself in the hills to recollect thoughts and get back to what made me fall in love with what I do: writing music and creating art.  There's something about the air in Jamaica that breathes inspiration and new dreams into my soul.  May 2013 bring everyone out there renewed hope and inspired directions in all you have worked for. I will take with me the spirit that I have found here in Jamaica - one of freedom in mind and soul and always the confidence to be all that we aspire to be.
