In these final hours of Jamaica's independence day and 2 days away from Singapore's 50th birthday, I ponder the similarities and differences between the 2 countries and celebrate the possibility of learning from one another. Here is the story of my recent trip to Jamaica with Singapura on my mind.Read More
The weather was sweet, the roof top breeze carried Reggae music through the air and it was another Singapura Dub Club full of good vibes. Cojie ran exclusive Mighty Crown Dubplates taking us from Dub to Steppaz to some Roots Reggae. What a treat to have virtuoso keyboardist Aya Sekine come through on a freestyle session playing the melodica with Cojie at the turntables. Special thanks also to Ryan Pittam, Rumshot (Dub Skank'in Hifi) and Jean Reiki for running music through out the night.
It was my biggest wish to see Mighty Crown in Singapore since touching down on the island, and I was so happy to see this come to fruition through our monthly events in collaboration with Potato Head Folk. I hope this plants a seed, Singapore Reggae, Dub and Bass fans find out more about Mighty Crown and we are able to bring the whole crew through the Lion City in the near future. Check out photos from the event here: PHOTOS June 07 Dub Club
Chiney 101 Tip: Find a band or DJ that inspires you and bring them to your town to inspire others around you.
I'm super excited to be part of Singapura Dub Club Sunday June 7 at Potato Head Folk. For the first time in Singapore, master Selecta of Mighty Crown COJIE will be playing at the rooftop dub club! It's no secret Mighty Crown, "the Far East Rulaz" have been great inspirations to me as we bring more Reggae to the Lion City. This crew grew Reggae events from a handful of friends to an annual event of 30,000+ people at Yokohama Stadium? This is a true testament to their skill and dedication to the craft and their love for the music & culture.Read More
