It's surprising that I travel to Jakarta so seldom. Only 1 hour 20 min flight away from Singapore, this capital city of Indonesia is home of some of my favourite people and musical collaborators.
The objective of this trip was to finish recording a remix to Kuno Kini's new single "Hey Beb!" Kuno Kini (meaning Old and New) is an incredible group that plays traditional Indonesian percussive & wind instruments, with a contemporary twist drawing inspiration from Reggae, Dub and Hiphop. Lead singer Bhismo invited me to stay at his home in Depok for the duration of our recording.
I also had the opportunity to record with Jakarta based producers Jurasiik. Although the crew is newly formed, Angga (also known as Muztang) & Opi come from Javabass, Drum and Bass community in Indonesia. The 2 had already remixed my song "Bababoom" and this was our chance to create an original single featuring Indo Reggae pioneer Masanies.
7 days, 2 singles... let's go to Jakarta!
